Interview: I had the chance to speak with the Garden Club of Virginia. They are the one’s who take care of the garden espically in the Spring time when more people come by to tour the house. When speaking with them, They told me about some of the history and usaage for the garden such as how it was used for slaves, stables, and the main use for garden all the fruits and vegatables. I also was tolf how the hosue got to be extended after Mary Washington passed in 1789. the backyard where the garden is located alsop had an outdorr kitchen, which I took a picture of, it doesnt look like one today, but I can definetly see how back then it was. They told me it was the oldest outdoor kitchen that still stands today in Fredricksburg. The brick pathway around the garden was chosen by Mary Washington herself so that she could visit her daughters house that as being built. They also told me how their job is to maintain a cottage garden typed image with vegatbvles and plently of beautiful flowers that blossom in the Spring.
